Creating a new Website – craigslist-flakes.com
by TravelingWebGuy on May.31, 2009, under Misc. Sites, Website Design and Development
So I’ve decided to create a new website. Something simple and easy using the WordPress blog system as the CMS for posting, commenting, updating and maintaining. Also I’ll be using WP because I’m leaving in 5 weeks and I want to have this done before I’m gone.
I’m basically going to be make a simple website that allows users to post their stories of the craigslist flakes they’ve encountered. I’m looking into the legal aspect of posting users email addresses to see what, if any, laws it may break. I may need to write a PHP function which will make the email un-clickable and not able to be grabbed by SPAM bots picking up email addresses. Watching water boil…

Not your usual headline, especially for a web designers blog. But it’s more to intrigue you and get you to ask yourself just “what the hell am I talking about“. Work days are long and boring which I will get into a little more later, evenings are slow and relaxing, and the nights are filled with thoughts and dreams of what my future plans are.
But what’s killing me… What’s making the 18 or so hours a day I’m up and working, is that I know in 6 weeks I’m flying out of the Country. I feel like I’m watching water boil every day, and even though I have the heat on high, the damn water just isn’t bubbling yet! (continue reading…)

by TravelingWebGuy on Apr.18, 2009, under Web Design Competitions
So a few years ago I heard about this web design contest – but it wasn’t your normal contest, the ones where they list guidelines for the site They vary for each contest, but it’s usually: a logo is provided, base colors, theme, mission statement, and purpose.
But this one, this one was being held in Los Angeles, and it was being held live, at a popular bar downtown, ages 21 and over only. The main rules were, you draw all your designs live, in front of the the crowd, you have 10 minutes to finish the work, and the crowd judges you. It goes through three levels and then the winner is announced. Well, I haven’t been to one of these, but I did remember the name of the company that sponsors the event, Cut & Paste. They throw events all over the world, and before you get into that final event, there’s a few qualifying rounds you have to go through. So it is a process and they do have to prove their skill.
