Watching water boil…

by TravelingWebGuy on May.26, 2009, under Corporate Sites, Photoshop Design, Thoughts

i_was_born_leetNot your usual headline, especially for a web designers blog. But it’s more to intrigue you and get you to ask yourself just “what the hell am I talking about“. We’ve all heard a similar saying, “[something long and tedious]… is like watching water boil”. That’s how I’ve been feeling the past month or two, and more so now than ever. Since I put my notice in at work 3 weeks ago, time has been slugging on. Work days are long and boring which I will get into a little more later, evenings are slow and relaxing, and the nights are filled with thoughts and dreams of what my future plans are.

But what’s killing me… What’s making the 18 or so hours a day I’m up and working, is that I know in 6 weeks I’m flying out of the Country. I feel like I’m watching water boil every day, and even though I have the heat on high, the damn water just isn’t bubbling yet! (continue reading…)

J.U.I.C.E. Cut & Paste Challenge

by TravelingWebGuy on Apr.18, 2009, under Web Design Competitions

So a few years ago I heard about this web design contest – but it wasn’t your normal contest, the ones where they list guidelines for the site They vary for each contest, but it’s usually: a logo is provided, base colors, theme, mission statement, and purpose.

But this one, this one was being held in Los Angeles, and it was being held live, at a popular bar downtown, ages 21 and over only. The main rules were, you draw all your designs live, in front of the the crowd, you have 10 minutes to finish the work, and the crowd judges you. It goes through three levels and then the winner is announced. Well, I haven’t been to one of these, but I did remember the name of the company that sponsors the event, Cut & Paste. They throw events all over the world, and before you get into that final event, there’s a few qualifying rounds you have to go through. So it is a process and they do have to prove their skill.

ewites Forum Listing

A few months ago I got a some energy to work on a new theme for the web forum I frequent. I’ve been a member here for about 7 years now and have met a lot of really cool people, and a few assholes as well. There’s always a bad apple, and at times, I’m that bad apple as well! muahahaa Regardless, ewites is an open registration web forum where multiple topics are discussed throughout the site. Some can get real heated with really good information, and others are just plain silly and we purposefully turn it that way. For instance, any topic related to December 21, 2012, the coming of the “Niburians”. kekeke. If you’re in for a funny read, Google that. Some people post some really weird, crazy, or just straight up off the wall shit. Makes for good laughs at times.

About six months ago the place went under new adminship, for the better, even though things haven’t changed all that much, but with the new owner, I think a lot of the users felt more secure… If you register, you’ll understand what I mean by “more secure”. And since that change, I’ve been able to do a lot of work helping with the sites design, logos, style sheets for certain areas, wiki, web development information, and anything else that was needed, or I just decided to up and work on something and showed the “duder” later. I could have been a moderator there (in a community of 4,000+) if I would of kept a handle on my hot head, but at times, I let things get the best of me and I say it how I see it.
